Getting Involved
We welcome parents to become involved in all aspects of school life. Being involved in the school can look different for each family depending on work and family commitments. There are formal ways you can get involved and informal ways.
School Council
Being a school council member means taking part in shaping the future of the school, helping to create and check the school’s budget, contributing to the school strategic plan and making decisions on policies and school activities. In most cases you need to be elected to become a council member. School Council elections happen by March each year and all parents and guardians from the school can vote.
Parents and Friends Club – The ‘PnF’
Our Parents and Friends Club is a valuable part of our whole school community. It is a fun way to meet other parents and get involved in activities that directly benefit all students. The Porepunkah Primary School ‘PnF’ helps to create links between the staff and parents, welcomes new parents, creates fun events for families, subsidises transport costs for school camps and some excursions through fundraising and has a say on some school policies.
School Working Bees
Occasionally our school community comes together to improve the school grounds through a Working Bee. These are generally held once a term when there are specific tasks to do such as spreading mulch or soft fall under the play equipment, topping up sand in the sandpit or clearing and tidying vegetation. Working Bees are a great opportunity to support the school, have some fun and meet other parents.
Volunteering
There is a wide range of volunteering opportunities available to parents and grandparents. From listening to students read, to helping in the classroom, to attending special celebrations or activities and being a helper on school excursions or camps, there is a volunteering opportunity for everyone. Contact the class teacher directly if you are able to volunteer and please remember the volunteering requirements in the Visiting and Volunteering Section of this booklet.
Parent Opinion Survey
Each year we send out a link for the Parent Opinion Survey, this is a simple way to get involved and give the school valuable feedback. We seek parent responses to the anonymous survey and make changes to the way our school operates based on this survey data. Please take the time to complete the survey when it comes your way.
