Sporting Programs

School Sport Houses

Porepunkah Primary School has three houses for sport competition:
Buffalo – Green
Hotham – Blue
Bogong – Red
Each child is allocated a house upon enrolment; siblings will always be in the same house and the classroom teacher communicate your child’s house allocation with you at the beginning of the school year.  Students are encouraged to wear their house colour when we have special sport competitions such as cross country, athletics and swimming. A brand new school house ‘buff’ is available to purchase to from the school office to show your support.

Whole School Sport

Each year, Porepunkah Primary School holds their own Cross-Country event involving all students from F-6 as well as an Athletics Carnival.  Students in 3-6 can participate in a Swimming Carnival at the beginning of the school year.

Interschool and District Sport

Students in years 3-6 are given the opportunity to participate in Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming as part of the Alpine District Sports Association with other local schools from the area.  Students who qualify at these events are invited to compete at District Level and may progress to Regional and State level.

Ski Program

Each year in term three the school organises a ski program at Mount Hotham for students in years 3-6.  All students receive lessons from the Hotham Snow Sports School.  An expression of interest is sent home early in the term and the number of days is dependent on the number of interested students and parent volunteers.

Sporting Schools Program

Through the Sporting Schools Grants Program, we are able to offer up to six, one hour sessions of specialist coached sports lessons.  Over the past two years, students have participated in Cricket, Tennis and Gymnastics at no extra cost to families.
